first drive with t56 tranny

Re: first drive with t56 tranny

went to the track last night. just 1/8 mile but thats all I need. tuner pro told me it was recording. but that was a lie. only 31sec of recording, didnt get anything. i miss my datamaster.

only had time for 2 runs. first run was terrible- 9.6 1/8th with around a 2.3 60ft. second run was a hot run, just about 10min later. much better. 9.0 1/8th @74mph with a 1.9 60ft. still disappointed but with that kind of improvment in two runs it wont take long to get back what i had. totaly diferent staging with a manual. dont want to break anything. best times before the tranny swap was 8.2 1/8th @81mph with a 1.7 60ft.

now here is a question. with that kind of a mph difference is something wrong? horsepower? or.....just crappy driving

To the best of my knowlage, my Sy's best in the 1/4 was an 11.2XX. According to the builder, that was the only pass that he didn't have to get it towed home.

I'm not shure I believe that number either. I would by estatic if I could get it to run stock times.

:2cents:

EDIT: You don't happen to have a pic of your throw-out bearing setup do you? Mine is, well.....interesting...

Re: first drive with t56 tranny

right when I leave the line i dont have any boost. but it doent take long. just reving the motor up to about 4k and feathering the clutch.

dont know what gear im in when I go through the traps. maybe...4th. the 1/8 is so short

to my knowledge the ls1 bell housing has a different bolt patern and depth. you can just use the lt1 bell bousing but the slave cyclinder is a weak link.

after i get paint im starting a engine build. at first a wanted to build a stroker but now im just leaning toward a stock stroke just so it can rev quick. and a bb turbo, how big i dont know. any ideas. the truck is mostly on the streat. does anyone build a bb 20g?

That's why your times are slower. Your dropping the clutch while everyone else already has the engine loaded up and the turbo spooled up. Your playing catchup. What you've built isn't a drag racer. You've built a road racer:tup:

Just use a two step and you can launch with boost easily.

Please explain this in more depth, I have heard this expression before but yet to get a GOOD explaination of its meaning

I read something about it months ago.

It has to do w/ screwing with the ignition and dumping lotsa fuel into the exhaust to spool the turbo. Real hard on turbos and mufflers I think. Rally cars use it to keep thier sh!t spooled all the time.

Two step is nothing more than a dual stage or dual mode rev limiter.

1st step in the "two step" is just the rpm at which you want to launch. It can be activated by a switch, ECM, DFI or any other number of ways. This 1st step is lower on the rpm scale than where the red line/max rpm of the engine is. Say you want to launch at 3500 rpm...you set the first "step" at 3500, pull to the line, activate the 1st step of the two step, mat the gas, and the engine goes to 3500 and stays there until you let off the button which turns the engine loose.

Since all a two step consists of is an ignition interupting device there is unburned fuel getting dumped into the exhaust which spools the turbo...ta dah...boost. This works the same no matter if the vehicle has an auto or a stick trans since the unburned fuel is igniting and providing the heat/hot gas expansion to spool up rather than loading the motor against the convert (loading the motor makes heat. heat=boost).

Search for and listen very closely to some of Ed Hess' vids and you can hear the two step working for him at the starting line to spool up/build boost.

That's a much better way of putting it...

As far as I know, I have the only other AWD 6 spd Sy in the world. Rumor is, if you launch it real hard (side-steppin' the clutch), it will break axles, driveshafts and clutch discs. I haven't tried so I can't vouch for the accuracy of that rumor but I'm just throwing it in.

Two step is the way to go. I have the two step installed on my turbo silverado with the 6 speed. Great job on the fabriacation, I know alot of people that want 6 speeds to mate with there t-case. You want to becarefull in 6th gear, it is said that, "the weakest gear in the trans is 6th gear. My truck is making over 600hp and I will not give the truck no more than half throttle in 6th. I have a stock 1998 t56 and it's running strong.
