Who here owns a reliable Ty?

Here I am, 3rd day of ownership, and I'm hoping this vehicle will be reliable for me. :)

I've already sourced 4l80e's out locally and I could have one at my mechanic's shop in 3 hours, hehe

Anyone here have a Typhoon or a Syclone that has never, or rarely, let them down?

I have a modded SY and have had it a few months with no problems. Runs good and strong.

....on the other hand, my Supra has been an unreliable POS

last 2 years it's been on the road for about 2 weeks! I want to pour gas on it and light it on fire.

Mine's totally reliable. It only doesn't run when I take it apart to do upgrades. I did just buy a beater though, so I can stop putting all these miles on it.

Cheryl (NCTyphoon) has been driving her's daily for years w/ no real issues 100K+ miles. But then again, she doesn't beat on it much.

Reliability is a function of how heavy your foot is, and how well you stay on top of things.

I driver a beater sy that is doing good even after hard life. My ty was good for ~40k miles until I got a heavier foot, and started to mod it (been apart for 4 years since)

Reliability doesn't seem to be a big issue as long as you keep it mostly stock and do good maintenance. When you start playing, you can kiss it goodbye though.

Hmm.... makes me want to buy a typhoon for a daily driver. I bought my syclone back in 2000 with 87,000 miles on it. She is about to turn 100,000 if I ever take it on a road trip. (nats)

My sy is modded quite a bit....so I have had issues related to hot weather... tranny acting up, bad coil caused her to die on me for a hour or so. Starter click sydrome. Blown turbo. (my fault) Bent pushrods. etc

Our Ty is a cream puff. It has been a reliable truck, and runs great. When it was new (1992-3) we went thru a time when it was in the shop a lot, but once the warranty ran out and I started doing things myself it hasn't needed anything but oil changes and tune up parts.
It has 107,000 miles now and is being used for the occasional soccer mom type stuff and doing that rather well.

I've owned mine for almost 6 years now,and the only real major things that went(knock on wood) on me were the heater core,at around 71k,and the water pump at around 75k.I haven't used it as a daily driver for the last 4 years though.

Re: Who here owns a reliable Ty?

Sold my reliable Ty; had 135k on it, bone stock except the safety upgrades of a Walbro pump, adjustable fuel pressure regulator, heater hose IC lines and a Jabsco IC pump. Drove it nonstop (except to get Hardees and whiz) from Minnesota to Vermont when I bought it. Aside from the 1992 Civic I drove on a blown head gasket for 6 months before it calved....its the most reliable car I've ever owned.
