Steering Wheel Oozing Goo!

Tooky

Serious about performance
Guys, for about a year my stock leather Syclone steering wheel has been oozing some nasty tan goo. It is as if the glue/bonder inside the wheel, has suddenly broken down. It only oozes when it is warm and humid out, and the hotter it is, the more it oozes. It wasn't that bad when I put the truck away in fall, but when I picked my truck up out of storage, it had oozed down the wheel and onto the seat ruining the fabric as I couldn't get it out. I took it to a body shop and they were able to apply something to get it out completely.

Now every time it gets hot, I have to "scrape" the ooze off the wheel. The weird part is that the wheel doesn't seem to be getting any thinner, despite a significant amount of ooze being squeezed out over this summer. The wheel is soft when it's hot.

Has anyone seen this? I have a friend who runs an auto upholstery shop but when I talked to him about it, he had no idea. I like the stock wheel a lot, so I've ordered a brand new one (pricey) but was hoping to learn what made this one fail.

The ooze isn't normal for a steering wheel. The only things I can think of is someone excessive amount of a leather conditioner (or some weird home brew leather conditioner.)

:rotf: Really dude. We all LOVE our trucks, but I think you love yours a little bit more.

How much did you pay for a new wheel, if you don't mind me askin' ?

Edit: Um...what are those two toggle switches above the light dimmer?

Somehow it seems I don't even have to comment for this thread to put a smile on my face.

I have had one leather Sy wheel deteriorate so badly the leather eventually was peeled off. There was no such goo anywhere. I have two trucks that sit in Texas heat and have never sploodged so spectacularly. Either someone has messed with your wheel or you need a sex therapist.

I guess that's what happens when a leather-wrapped wheel gets so saturated with conditioner, it can take no more:rotf: Time to invest in a pair of driving gloves:tup:

Vault. Now.

Looks like overuse of conditioner to me too. I have seen buildup from a lot of people that use hand lotion/hand cream as well.

How about a "NWS" in the thread title! :)
