Lower Heat Exchanger Question

Does the line from the port on the drivers side on the stock CCHE hook up to the bottom or top port behind the upper IC? I got the Johnson pump on my Sy, but I can't seem to see any water movement in the upper IC when the pump is running. I didn't see any kinks in the lines. On the other hand, I got the Jabsco pump on my Ty, and I can clearly see water movement in the upper IC.

Re: Lower Heat Exchanger Question

Did you get all the air out? Big PITA when opening up that system.

Ditto. I do *everything* that I can to keep the coolant in my system. If I have to remove the upper intercooler for anything, I keep the rubber lines connected and lay it on top of my upper intake. I lay a towel between the two of them so they don't get scratched up...

Re: Lower Heat Exchanger Question

There's a different way to think of this such that it applies to all upper/lower combinations.

You want the suction side (inlet)of the pump to be gravity-fed by the lower fitting of the IC core. This minimizes the amount of air that can get to the suction side.

From there, the pressure (outlet) side of the pump should go to the lowest line of the lower CCHE. It's best if you have the pump mounted low (like the stock location), but it's not 100% necessary.

From there, it leaves on the highest outlet on the lower CCHE, and then either returns to the upper IC core, or if you have an auxiliary heat exchanger, it enters the auxiliary heat exchanger at the lowest point, and out at the highest point. Then on to the upper IC. (upper fitting)

Yeah, I got all the air out. I installed the pump more than a month ago and have been driving the truck since. The fluid level is full. I just don't see any fluid movement. I don't think the Johnson pump performs as well as the old Jabsco pump.

Re: Lower Heat Exchanger Question

Can you hear the pump running? If not, don't forget about the fuse behind the alternator...

Re: Lower Heat Exchanger Question

The pump is hot wired, and I can hear it whine loud and clear with the key turned on.

Re: Lower Heat Exchanger Question

Swapping the two IC lines fixed my problem. I now pull fluid from the lower fitting on the CAC and can see fluid movement.
