I wuz reading in the latest Hot Rod mag (Nov) about removing the front sway bar for weight and allowing the front to rise easier. Anyone here do that?

I took it off just for weight savings...drives a little different around the turns but I plan on driving at the track most of the time. If you take it off & want to put back on, be careful not to strip the a-arm bolt holes. You need to support the say bar as you tighten the bolt back into to it.

Interesting. Did you happen to weigh the thing?

The main reason behind taking the front sway bar off was for the weight transfer for rwd cars. Its usually the number 1 thing to do on a car you want to hook a little better.

You don't necessarily want the front to lift. If you're after that last bit of weight, it makes sense, but for the average truck I wouldn't bother.

Dave & Dig and everyone,

Great comments. I had never even heard of this. Yes, lots of trailer cars don't have 'em but I had not heard of it in a street car. I think Dave has the best thought thought, at least explained well.

You could say I got what I asked for in the way of comments. Interesting that a couple guys did remove it but didn't say if it went any better at the track. The only true test IMHO.

Anyhow, thanks all!! I'm gonna keep mine on for now.

Re: Sway bar removal

Well Don , i also have mine removed but have no evidence that it helps or hurts . If you did a couple of runs and find it helps 60ft times keeping it vs removing it , I would put mine back on .
