Silly track question?

This may seem silly to some but there is no track close to me and I have never been to one but I have always had this question about our trucks at the track. What is the purpose of doing a boost launch before staging?

On a stock truck, boost is limited to 8psi when first started. You could either do a WOT rev or a couple pound launch to disable the boost limit. That's why on some of the aftermarket chips they disabled this limit for easier staging.

If you have a stock chip, it's to get past the computers first boost limit.

A good question to ask, I would have saved some embarrassment had I know that on my first outing.

What? I have never heard that, but IDK...

I never did a pre-launch anywhere, track or street. Not trying to build any head in the motor/IC before the run. Always go around the water box, and get up to the line as fast as possible and get staged, so i dont have to rush up to the line and look like a turd trying to build boost on a green light. I also just hold it at 0#'s and just have it stalled until you can see the other cars are off the track, and the tree is ready to go. No point in killing your trans.

But yeah, i have had the truck turned off in the staging lanes. Fire it up, and roll up to the line and get full boost on the launch. Where does the 8# boost limit come in???

Re: Silly track question?

Wow I didnt know they had this in the stock chip that explains a lot of what my new truck was doing!
Great info on here thanks so much!

Re: Silly track question?

Not that it applies to my truck, but I learned something new today... Those engineers were so smart...
