Plus to be honest with you I would do a th350. you can build them to handle more power than you will throw at it. Cheaper. Plus you don't have to change a whole lot. Just my opinion. Advance adapters maked the parts to connect the transfer case to the trans. Pm me if you want those details to. I am at work right now and they are on my computer at home.
I'm interested in the Turbo 350 info. I have a built TH350 sitting around doing nothing that I had contemplated using in the Ty, but am worried about running out of gear with it.
there is a truck with one,but im not sure what happened with that. i dont know how long the rear drive shaft is,but cant be long. With the combo of a 350 or 400 and under/overdrive it would cost more than an 80e, but with more gears i guess.
A completely stock 4l80e will hold more power than most people here will ever make and you still have overdrive and lockup. Probably cost the same to do that swap as a built TH400...
Gear Vendors is add on unit to the back of the transmission. I don't know if they even have transfer case adapter but the transmission length is going to be pretty long with one.
A 4l80e is a TH400 inside, just with an extra gear and some electronics doing the shifting.
So they should take about the same build to hold the same amount of power.
With that said there are ways to do an 80e cheaper, won't be off the shelf complete kit shows up in 1 box ready to install but there are ways.
$100 ECM
$400 shaft/adaptor (i posted drawings of these)
$300 tranny core
$300 rebuild kit
$250 driveshafts (probably need to do them with th400 also)
$750 convertor
just over 2 there. Granted a th400 will be cheaper and a fair option for some.
You could always do a full manual 80 with no electronis. But from my understanding, it will bang real hard at every time YOU shift it. But it may be option..... Also look into a full 700 biuld. Might not be that bad. Scott from D T post a "kit" awhile back for a 700 that sounded pretty good. :2cents:
