Re: Steering shaft

As soon as you get some more in ready to go I will take one. I am in Los Angeles zip 91423. Is there anything else I will need to install this or does it just "bolt on" so to say?

I just put mine on a few months ago. I put one on my el camino, and one on my typhoon. They are a true bolt on... Take yours off, put the new one on. Fairly easy swap and well worth it.

Damn, that is good to hear. My steering is so loose!!! I cant wait.A mechanic was saying that I needed to rebuild my front end and didnt think so. Come on here and there is the answer. Mike campbells write up about repairing a window and giving part numbers saved me from a guy telling me that it needed a new motor installed for $300. cost me $10 bucks to fix. Thank you!!!!!!!

Re: Steering shaft

My steering was super loose too. The steering shaft helped a bunch but changing to a zq8 steering box was a night and day difference. I am going to highly recomend that if you have a lot of play in your steering, upgrade the steering box!

So are you saying that I should do the box and the shaft? I was reading and is it simply a zq8 steering box or is there any other info, i dont want the stop to be different and run into tire rub?

thanks

Re: Steering shaft

Do you have a syclone or a typhoon? I think the typhoon gets a better upgrade with the zq8 box but both trucks get a great upgrade from the shaft. I will have more available next week!

Absolutely change to zq8 box if you can. You will have to change the pitman arm on the zq8 box to one for a typhoon but other than that it is a direct bolt on and the best thing for steering and handling. I am running 9.5 inch wide 18in rims on my lowered truck and there isn't any issue with tire rub. The combo of the zq8 and steering shaft was an awesome upgrade!

You guys won't be disappointed this is a great swap, I think I put mine on in 15mins and it was a big difference compared to my worn out shaft. Aaron you still alive, busy I see.

Re: Steering shaft

I am definitely going to do this. Just a question because I am a noob. What tools are needed for this swap?

Re: Steering shaft

a small hammer, a 1/4drive ratchet with 10mm, 11mm, and a 15 mm. It took me 10 min with the top of the motor off. mind you thats with almost seized bolts and really greasy shaft.
