So I started the truck for the first time in almost 2 years last night and let it run for about 10min. It was backfiring like a son of a bitch (EVERY 10sec on cue)...turns out the dumbass award of the day goes to me
When the plug wires are connected properly the truck runs much better...
So anyways last night while it was running I noticed a small leak coming from the backside of the turbo. I didn't have much time to inspect last night so I shut it off and put it away.
Go back out tonight to fill the radiator so the truck idled for about 15min til it got up to operating temp. Checked for radiator leaks...none
Then I look at the turbo again and the leak is pretty bad. It seems like it is coming from between the exhaust housing and downpipe...all the bolts are tight though. It's a pretty significant leak as there's a nice little puddle on the frame.
Not sure if I should get real excited about this yet. The oil is old (prolly close to 2 years) and I have yet to change it. It will be changed before I start it again. Is it possible that the viscosity in the oil is just shot and possibly causing the leak? Turbo bearings bad? Return line plugged up and overflowing causing it to leak out the backside and downpipe? I don't think there is a gasket there? Any other ideas?
TIA guys
