CV Shafts

Re: CV Shafts

In the up coming months I'll be swapping to a Rockford Gear T56 and according to Robert Lone I'll probably start to brake things. While under the truck the other day I notice I have a torn boot that will need replaced. I though if I'm going to all the trouble, I'll just do these now. Are the stock shafts really that good? Does anyone make CV shafts with new knuckles, most parts store crap comes with reground joints.

Re: CV Shafts

I would at least buy new axles instead of remans. Throwing a 6 speed in there changes things a little. You can shock the driveline a lot more with a clutch than you can with a torque converter.

You figure your only getting 35% of the power to the front wheels, so even at 1000 hp your only getting 350 to the front wheels. I have never had trouble with the front axles aside from boots tearing. Im kinda curious to see what others say. As far as i know though there arent a lot of options there.

I also just noticed your in Martinsburg which isnt that far away from me. Youll have to let me know if you are coming up to any of the events in this area.

I didn't think Westmister was that close to Carlise. Yes, I'll be at the truck meet. I really wanted to go to Nats instead, but I need to $$$ for the trans so if will have to wait till next year. I think that's it, it's on 27, it's that really old but cool looking stone building.

I found the napa ones to be pretty good. I went 9.70 with them. The ones from autozone were not that good, seemed lose, I never put them on.

Just curious how much did the driveshaft shop want for some custom ones?

Thanks,

Re: CV Shafts

Are you sitting down? Here is a quote from my email, "We could do a prototype axle doing this, if you send me a set of wheel hubs we could broach them out to a larger spline (stock is 27 we could do 33) i could make a center bar larger and change the inner c.v. to a Porsche 930 style end by making a conversion plate. A system like this would be somewhere around 1850.00 (with new hubs and all parts)" I know it's a lot but maybe with enough interest we could get that price down, but you get what you pay for and there stuff is top notch!
