I can't get the key out of my mother-in-laws 94 blazer. the key won't turn back no matter what I do. its like something is jammed that won't let it turn back. has this happened to anyone else and what did you do to fix it?

Re: key stuck in the ignition.

I had to replace the lock cylinder when this happened, easy fix. You have to remove the steering wheel though.

Re: key stuck in the ignition.

or try dropping it in neutral and then try the key.

better yet, rev it to about 5 grand in neutral and then drop it into D.
that gets things unstuck everytime.

Re: key stuck in the ignition.

My key got stuck in the Typhoon not long after I bought it. I was able to work it free after awhile, got home and sprayed Teflon-based lubricant in there - haven't had a problem since.

As was mentioned, also fiddle with the shifter position to make sure its not still locked out.

Re: key stuck in the ignition.

well i messed with it a bit. I sprayed WD40 and messed with it and was able to get it to turn back enough to shut the truck off but still couldn't get the key out. I screwed with it some more and broke the tabs and snapped the key off inside. Now the only thing that's left is the metal cylinder with a broken key in it.
So now looks like she's stuck here for the night until i can get a new lock and pull the steering wheel off.
How can i gut it and just stick a screw driver in there?

Re: key stuck in the ignition.

thanks for the link. I tried pulling the wheel last night but didn't have the correct bolts to screw into the threads. So i'll be doing that today.
