Knock, knock, knock.....

I need help. Now that I am datalogging my Ty, it is knocking. It is a new built motor and I don't want to damage it. In fact I will not even do a full 1320 foot boost run because I don't like the way the graph looks and the timing is inconsistent too. I have put way, way, way too much $$$$$$$$$$$ to continue w/o diagnosing the root cause. I am planning to go to the Miami wrench gathering but not if I can't figure this out. I will be calling around some local tuners Monday but feel one of the members on here could help way more. I will obviously compensate anyone who can help me. I have rpm multichip & 3 bar but just switched back to stock chip & 2 bar and each combo is not performing well. I feel like it will be "simple" as everything is clean and almost or is new.

I live in Sarasota,FL. Funny, another member posted for tuning help in Sarasota too. If no one can help locally I could do a run and post the datamaster graph but I really don't want to knock anymore than I have to. Thanks in advance guys. This thing has been driving me crazy for all weekend.......actually it has been doing that since I got it last July. I have yet to feel what this is capable of as the small/big issues haven't stopped.

Mybe I should have done a LSx swap instead.........

Re: Knock, knock, knock.....

I must give a huge THANKS to spoolingturbo6. He drove(almost 1 hour)over to tommynos's house and gave me a hand. I was having crazy knock on my new build as well as numerous other issues. He "lent" me his ostrich and we got it going w/a g3. It would not hold power after I unplugged the laptop though. I called Moates and just switched the 2 red bridges on the g3 and all is good :D. I plan on optimizing the tune but it is a new vehicle from what I picked up in Toms River.

I do not want to publicly 'diss a company but I will tell/show anyone the issues that were handed to me through pm. Let's just say I was handed a ticking timebomb. Thank God it is right now!

Tommynos also let us use his tools/house/computer and is a great guy too, even though he drives a slow Buick!

Florida has some great SyTy guys!

Awesome!! So did you order a new ostrich? So all is good now? Time for the exhaust now and fix those exhaust leaks...Stacy said he would hook you up and I also talked to Julio today about doing both our trucks...I got the prop shaft in and 1 minute later was building rpms on the footbrake and launching her hard and all is good!

Re: Knock, knock, knock.....

I want to do my exhaust as soon as he wants to! All is good! I just had to switch the 2 red bridges. There are (3) pins and I moved mine down to bridge the bottom 2 instead of the top 2. I can't wait to get my exhaust done! Picture for referance -

I am just going to buy Tysons Ostrich. Did you talk yo Julio about meth inj.? I am so pleased now. It is "almost" done!!!

Actually I just called Stacey and he said he would order a Borla muffler and it should be in around 3 days..Yes Julio said he could sell it to us or do the install too,its $725 installed or $475 for the kit...It will have a new tank in replace of your overflow that says alky and a low fuel light and its a progressive kit,its the best of the best as far as kits go...He said anytime just call and let him know, then you can bump her up to 26 PSI like my slow buick:tup:

He has those but said with turbos they are restricted? Call him real quick,he has those in stock..I have them on my GN and just run electric cut-outs to open the pipes up while driving:D

He will answer now, call 941-362-3833 thats his shop but it goes to his cell phone after hours....actually he just pulled up so if you call him he will be at my house..

Re: Knock, knock, knock.....

Well my knock is back. It must be false <crosses fingers>. I am driving to the Miami meet this Sat. and a little nervous. If I rev the Ty in neutral I get about 4* counts. The other time is when I am driving about 50mph and decelerate to 40ish w/o physically using the brakes and it goes crazy 2*-18* counts....but no audible "ping" ever. The few who have looked at it say false knock and I tend to agree but DAMN it's scary.

Under 100tps it stays below 2*. It's driving around town under NO boost, redlight to redlight that it goes crazy. I have 2 files. A WOT 1-2 run and a cruising around run. Would someone PLEASE let me email you these files and give me your opinion. I hope to resolve this before the Miami drive. Thanks in advance.

My Ty has - afpr, 3 bar map, walbro, int.pump hotwired, new plugs, cap, rotor, wires, built block .030 over(balanced w/only forged pistons).

I also have a map that Tommynos has and he is getting no knock. I am stumped.

Re: Knock, knock, knock.....

Did you talk to Tooky about it? He seems to have it figured out when it comes to DM files, his site has tons of info.

Re: Knock, knock, knock.....

Your sensor is in the stock location? If yes, verify that it is torqued to the stock specs - I think 13 in lbs? (verify) If ovrtorqued, KR will read high. Forged pistons can be noisy when cold, does it still do it after it is warmed up? Stock heads are prone to knock, but not in netural or park. That is a pretty good indicator of false knock assuming you don't have a mechanical failue in the works or obvious ignition problems. If you do, chances are it will get much worse in a hurry.

Re: Knock, knock, knock.....

The knock sensor is in the stock location and it shows knock when engine is warm or cold. I have a feeling(hope) it is the knock sensor being to tight. I have spent the past month re-repairing alot of careless/dumb things the shop in NJ did to my TY.

Re: Knock, knock, knock.....

You might try pulling 2* or so if static advance as a test. Helped my stock motor. :2cents:

Does fuel pressure follow boost?

I don't think Flowmaster makes a "straight through" muff. I've seen a few comments here that folks didn't like the sound either.

Interesting. I plan on pulling collective minds together in Miami and see if I can figure this out.
